In the first part of this series Osteoarthritis Remedies, I actually didn’t talk too much about resistant band therapy. I intend to do that today.
In Osteoarthritis Remedies Part 1, I talked about seeing patients in my office between the ages of 40-65 having pains that are characteristic of Osteoarthritis.
I said that patients are always surprised to hear that they are being told they have Arthritis (same thing basically as osteoarthritis). I would even go as far and say that I often have patients even younger then 40 and in their late 20′s or early 30′s with these symptoms.
Understanding Osteoarthritis Remedies:
We Must First Understand Osteoarthritis Symptoms First:
- Joint pain and tenderness (this could be in the hips, shoulders, knees, wrist, back and neck)
- Reduced ranges of motion in these joints
- Inflammation and effusion (swelling) in the joints
- crepitus (or joints crackling)
- calcification development (also called spurs, diagnosed through an x-ray, but other findings present as well, like decreased spacing in the joints)
Now you don’t have to ALL of the above to officially be diagnosed with Osteoarthritis, but I am sure if you have any of the above, you are probably looking for Osteoarthritis remedies.
Think of it as a continuum, with all the findings representing advanced osteoarthritis changes, while some of the findings above would represent being in the beginning stages. Either way, osteoarthritis remedies is what you are looking for.
So, now that you accept that you at least have some of those symptoms above, what can you do about it? That is what this post is about today: what are these so called “Osteoarthritis Remedies“?
I am talking about resistant band therapy.
All sufferes of osteoarthritis pain, have pain in (some to all of their) joints, reduced motion in their joints, and a baseline of inflammation throughout their bodies. What better Osteoarthritis remedies can I provide restore joint mobility, without drugs.

Inflammation is a big reason why Osteoarthritis is allowed to continue to develop in our bodies. Nutrition plays a huge part of that. But so does activity.
That’s because as we get pain in our joints, our joints begin to break down or vice versa. Osteoarthritis remedies become all that more important.
Changes that occur after that are: less lubrication in the joints, less movement in the joints, improper movement in the joints, contracted, fatigued and tight ligament, tendons, and muscles, bad posture, and balance issues.
That’s why “focused” activity acts as a remedy for Osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis Remedies: Exercises: (focuses on)
- Increasing Flexibility
- Improving Joint lubrication
- Increasing muscle strength
- Enhancing muscular stamina
- Improving muscular endurance
- Improving balance,
- Improving posture
- Improving cardiovascular endurance.
Fortunately, Resistant Band (& Tubing) Training does all of those and can be qualified as an all inclusive osteoarthritis remedies.
Doing a circuit/interval/super set style of training with shortened rest periods can keep your hearth rate elevated, burn calories, tone muscles, increase flexibility, joint lubrication, all the while improving balance and posture.
Anyone interested in these osteoarthritis remedies?
I’m sure a whole bunch of arthritis sufferes said an empatic “yes”. Good for you, this site is for you.
But some of you who answered ” I don’t know” or “maybe” or even “no” , may I ask why? I mean seriously.
I understand if you don’t suffer with Osteoarthritis pain, or don’t think you have it, or better yet, you’re already in tip-top shape with a pretty darn good exericse routine in place.
I can live with that. Maybe I can help you with an easy to do, follow along home based or travel program that you can do when you’re in a crunch (excuse the pun).
The rest of you who said “no” that DO HAVE osteoarthritis (or some of the symptoms above), is it because you don’t want to, don’t have time to, don’t care to?
I’m pretty sure it’s none of those, because if you’ve gotten this far in my post, you’re probably (or in the very least kind of) interested.
Maybe it’s the fact that you’ve been told that your “not allowed to exercise?” or that your not “supposed to exerise”. Or maybe you’re just in too much pain at the moment to even consider it?
Those are better objections to overcome, but easy enough to, because, sorry to say it, even the “being in too much pain to do it” one, well that too, is B$% Sh#t.
I only say that cause I care. Consider me the tough but LOVING friend/brother/nephew/uncle/grandson, or what ever you may call it.
Seriously, there is really no good reason to not do some form of activity.
Even if you’re in pain. If your weak, tired, stiff, achy, dizzy, or frail. I’m not saying that you have to start off super tough and intense, but start somewhere. Even if it’s getting out of the house, walking down the block and back that’s a great start.
I would therefore change the phrase “I don’t exercise because I am weak, frail, tired dizzy, achy, too old” to “I do exercise BECAUSE I’m all of the above”
You SHOULD start…NOW let’s begin.
Before beginning any exercise protocol/routine/program, you always here “go see your doctor first” or something along that lines? WHY? I mean really, Why do we do that?
It’s not like you doctor knows how or what to do for exercise prescription, they’re not taught that in medical school. They’re not. Many times, your doctor may not even be exercising themselves.
So we are we told to see the doctor? I will dedicate an entire post to cover what’s called the CONTRA-INDICATIONS for exercise. But in a nut-shell, we are told to see the doctor, because if you have been highly inactive and sedentary for a number of years, what’s the worst thing that can happen to you if you begin to exercise?
Well, perhaps a heart attack and even DEATH. Doctors like to make sure their is not a lot of blockage (fancy term is occlusion) of the heart.
Our bodies are so adept at compensating for changes, that we could even have 85-90% blockage (0r more) before we even noticing anything.
That would be as I see the most important reason to be evaluated (with other important reasons I’ll discuss more in-depth later), especially if you have been inactive, are morbidly obese, smoke, and have a history of heart problems in the family.
So having a complete physical examination, blood work, metabolic profile, and even a stress test (test’s the capacity of your heart) are all great things to do, and SHOULD be done yearly (to bi-yearly).
